It’s spring on the Seacoast of Maine and New Hampshire, and that means long, sunny days, pleasant temperatures, and absolutely perfect weather for enjoying one of America’s most beautiful coasts! If you’re looking for a social distancing-friendly way to get outside on the Seacoast, you’ll find more than a few terrific options in the area.
Must-Try Seacoast Outdoor Activities
Whether you want to be on the water or on land, at the beach or in the woods, you’ll find plenty to love in the Seacoast area. Here are a few of our favorite ways to get outside on the Seacoast.
Hike a trail at Odiorne Point State Park
Located in Rye, NH, Odiorne Point is actually the largest undeveloped stretch of land along the New Hampshire coastline. Here, you’ll find miles of scenic trails through lush woods, beautiful beach views, and the Seacoast Science Center.
Enjoy the views at Fort Foster
With three beaches, an extensive trail system, and an old military fort, Fort Foster in Kittery, ME is the perfect place for relaxing or adventuring. It also offers breathtaking views of the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor, including Whaleback Light and Portsmouth Harbor Light.
Picnic at Four Tree Island
Part of the Portsmouth-run Prescott Park, Four Tree Island is technically not an island, but it’s still a fantastic place for an afternoon stroll or a picnic. It offers several BBQ areas, picnic tables, and lovely views of the Memorial Bridge and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Pedal along the Eastern Promenade Trail
Take a scenic bike tour of Portland via the Eastern Promenade Trail. This shoreline trail boasts magnificent views and connects to the Back Cove Trail, another idyllic waterfront peddle.
Paddle the Scarborough Marsh
Maine’s largest saltwater marsh, Scarborough Marsh spans 3,100 acres of tidal marshes, salt creeks, uplands, and freshwater marshes. Traveling by canoe or kayak is a great way to get an up-close look at the marsh’s bountiful wildlife.
Stroll the beach
The Seacoast has a lot of great hiking, boating, biking, and sightseeing, but truly, nothing compares to its beaches. Fortunately, the area’s home to plenty of beaches, so you can take your pick of a quiet, rocky shoreline with a far off feel or a more popular sandy area ideal for swimming.
