Driving through Portsmouth NH in October you’re likely to notice a lot of these guys standing around town.

It’s Portsmouth’s annual “Scarecrows of the Port” fall display. It’s a grass roots effort; “To encourage members of the community to create harvest-themed displays in order to enhance and extend the fall experience while promoting the vitality of the Seacoast for residents and visitors alike.”

The result is bunches of these cool looking scarecrows all over town. Here’s a few we saw walking and driving around.

These were all in the downtown Portsmouth area.

I thought this one was in a good spot at the corner of Deer & Market Streets welcoming visitors to Portsmouth.

The wind was blowing the one down by the Portsmouth Sheraton around.

Not to be left out the Pease Tradeport had some scarecrows too.

And finally the one down by the ‘Tugboat Alley Too’ Portsmouth Harbor cruises although their had more of a nautical theme. See all the Scarecrows of the Port here with an interactive map and details of the scarecrow contest.

This is the fourth year the Chamber and it’s partners have done the Scarecrows so I guess it’s risen to the level of a tradition now.
