Thanksgiving is almost here and after all the turkey and trimmings have been enjoyed it then become the start of the Christmas season, when people decide to start decorating their homes and even decide to use services as interior decorator denver to help them with this.
I noticed the traditional Christmas wreaths are now hanging on the lamp posts downtown and December 1st is the lighting of the official Portsmouth Christmas tree at the climax of the annual Christmas parade through Market Square and down Islington Street. December 1st, 5-8 PM, come on downtown and enjoy some festivities with your fellow residents.
Lots of other holiday activities are happening between now and the end of the year. The Portsmouth Historical Society at their Discover Portsmouth Center are holding their 28th annual Gingerbread House contest. While you’re checking out the fanciful gingerbread houses you can also enjoy the Rose Labrie art exhibit. Admission is free and it’s conveniently located on the corner of Middle St and Islington across the road from Jumping Jay’s Fish Cafe.
Our friend and longtime Portsmouth resident Harold Whitehouse is the grand marshal for the Christmas parade this year and he’s very exciting about it, he made sure to get the best led xmas lights. He’s going to be riding in a trolley with a bunch of kids (Harold will be the older kid. ;). He told me recently that he bought everyone a red stocking cap to wear for the occasion.

And, weather permitting, the skating rink at Strawbery Banke Museum will be open in late November this is a very cool and traditional family activity and they also have skating lessons in case you don’t know how, Victorian skaters perform during the annual Candlelight Stroll at the museum and of course hot chocolate and cookies to enjoy after skating. Check the Strawbery Banke website for the latest on house and events scheduled. The annual Candlelight Stroll through he vintage houses is also a Christmas delight in Portsmouth.
